Hate to bring up a past comment, but I haven't been here to pick up on you LBSRA guys' comments XD
Quote:
You have to remember that ~80% of all GW players have less than 20k in their account. So you are effectively charging this person 25% of their entire savings account for a short run. My clients are the other 20% of GW players, with close to 1000k in their account. I charge 25k for LA to Sanctum Cay, completing the mission, which is effectively 2.5% of their savings. The defense rests...
|
Here's a though, what if I charged my price to the 20% of GW players? Who wins then? And what if you charge your prices to the 80%? You have to take in all factors, and no you have no defence that would pass in court.
I believe everyone should be allowed to make these services, but Lady Blue Steel is being greedy charging so much. That is the one reason I have been posting here, because the prices for both joining and being run are ridiculous.

I'm sure you and your clan have a great time together with your experiences, the environment, and running from town to town. If killing some monsters in a game, running past a bunch of tundra giants, or typing in a few emotes is an experience to you that is good. It gives you something to be proud of yourself for.

I'm starting to think that you're losing perspective. GW is a game, so what does good vs. evil intentions have anything to do with this? You can roleplay as you see fit, establish standards, etc., so long as you don't violate the EULA.
Many parts of the game does require skills beyond the brute-force method, and this is where LBS has capitalized -- in teaching various techniques to make the game easier to play.

Creating a profitable business model, whether in game or real life, is perfectly fine so long as it doesn't involve fraud, racketeering, or any other criminal activity. LBSRA doesn't commit any of these acts, so where's the problem? No profit can be made unless there's demand for what someone is supplying. Obviously LBS found a specialized market and had enough initiative to make it a good business.

Obviously, I think your trying to turn this game into something more than it is.

Nothing wrong with freedom of speech minus the schoolyard politics. Tooting your own horn is perfectly fine, so long as it doesn't violate the EULA.

Where did this come from? And frankly, who cares? What relevance does it have to any of this thread? None of us would be here without the internet... who should we thank, Al Gore?
In case you missed it, LBS is a real life lawyer by profession. There's no reason why he can't apply some of what he learned from the real world in-game. If anyone plans on lecturing anyone else in here about ethics in this thread, then that person better have his credentials squared away first.

I think this is pretty cool that someones offering this service to newer players and even some moderate or veterans would be interested.

@talon.
Rich people will pay more for guaranteed success. Many of these players make more than 20k in the time it takes a public runner to complete a run while there's always a chance of failure delaying completion even further.
Unless you could offer the same level of service, and have a good name where people will vouch for you, the same 20% may be hesitant to use your service even if it were cheaper. As an LBSRA graduate, you are certified and you may charge any price you want with the same recognition though.
If they targetted their market towards the 80%, which they wouldn't do... then their prices would probably be adjusted. I've seen people in the guild pick up runs for cheaper because they've got the free time and I've seen people in the guild pick up runs for free because they've got nothing to do. Prices listed are a guideline designed to take advantage of the wealthy ^.~
To address your second point, yes everyone is allowed to make those services, however, in regards to an academy-style learning environment, nobody else has come forward with that perogative. (well, maybe Malafis and his healing school>.>)
That effectively means that LBS has a current monopoly on that service, because it's a video game community where there are lacksadaisal rulings, she could effectively charge whatever she wanted as long as it was still profitable. However, like a real-world business, she hasn't raised her prices (The company monopolizing a service may not arbitrarily raise charges without due cause as seen by the governing body) anyways to take advantage of the monopoly.
As for charging too much for runs, please keep in mind that these prices are advertised on a FORUM. None of the LBS members spam in Beacons or Lions or wherever else with these prices. I think (or I'd like to think anyhow :P) the people visiting these forums are moderately educated and know exactly why they're paying so much.
Thanks for your concern!
And how come I don't get any hugs><

Ummm.... do you read? I said I service the 20% with a mil+ in the bank. I don't cater to new players... they don't have enough gold.
Good counter argument there genius.

Talon is trying to use what we call a "Straw Man Argument." The Straw Man fallacy is when you misrepresent someone else's position so that it can be attacked more easily, knock down that misrepresented position, then conclude that the original position has been demolished. It's a fallacy because it fails to deal with the actual arguments that have been made.
Once again, after all the appeals, the defense rests.

Sarcasm is not nice And it's not entirely Straw-Man yet, he hasn't misrepresented your position so much as pose an alternate scenario. Although the alternate scenario has no bearing on the topic at hand.

I absolutly love this. This has got to be at least the sixth time I have seen this posted. How is this relevant to anything. It doesn't take a genious to take a common build for running, and basically turn it into a way to make some gold. The guy has a job like everyone else. Big Deal.
Master Beef you can sign me up for your new Academy. Looks Nice

I totally agree, yay... LBS is a lawyer... She has an exstensive vocublary, does that necessarily mean she can teach to run like a pro? No guarantees.

I admire people who have the will and strength, nagging about old stuff over and over again.
1. How "bad" the academy is.
2. We charge too much
3. Enrollment tuition
4...and god knows what.
I can't figure out why people take this so personal? When you have
NO clue what we can offer?
Has the negative comments changed anything?
1. The academy is even more popular (daily new applications)
2. The customers is coming in as normal
3. Accepting new tuitions several times a week.
4. God seems to like LBSRA.
I can only come to the conclusion that instead of giving a bad
name to the academy it seems to backfire and reinforce the good
reputation that LBS and the new breed of elite runners in LBSRA have, as for myself. (oh crap, I'm arrogant to?!)
Seriously, if you don't believe in yourself, you won't progress in any
game or in real life.
